The NHS Change Drive will start soon. Part of the money raised will go to the Ronald McDonald House. The Ronald McDonald House provides families with a place to stay as a child receives medical treatment at a nearby hospital. These rooms come at little to no cost for the families.

Bring that change in on 2/11, 2/13, 2/17, 2/19 to your second period teacher, so you can stall the teacher (up to 10 minutes)

Big Red Recap:

The JV and Varsity boys basketball teams traveled to Western Reserve on Monday night and finally got to play the Roughriders for the first time this season after weather cancellations. It was a rough night for the Big Red as both teams lost to the Roughriders. The varsity game was a high scoring up and down affair that started with a back and forth 1st quarter with both teams shooting the ball very well and trading blows. WR would take a 20-17 lead into the 2nd quarter and then would really catch fire as they scored 25 points in the quarter to extend their lead to 45-27 at the half. The Big Red continued to battle and play hard in the 2nd half as they would try for the comeback and would inch to a 61-47 deficit after the 3rd quarter. That would be too much for the Big Red to overcome with the final score ending at 82-72 as the Big Red drop to 12-5 overall and 8-2 in conference play. They now hold a one game lead in the league standings with two more big league games looming this week on Thursday at New London and Saturday at home against Crestview.

Big Red Weekend Recap:

It was another busy winter sports weekend as the month of January concluded with our Big Red teams getting ready to head into the home stretch of the season! The weekend started on Friday night as the Big Red boys basketball teams played host to Monroeville in a tripleheader that started with the freshman picking up a nice win over the Eagles. Monroeville then evened things out with a win in the JV game before the Big Red and Eagles went toe to toe in the varsity game in what was a key Firelands Conference matchup. It was a back and forth matchup all night as Monroeville jumped out to an early lead and would hold leads of 15-11 after the 1st quarter and 29-28 at the half. The Big Red then played a strong first part of the 3rd quarter grabbing the lead and would lead by as much as 5 points before the Eagles finished the quarter on a 9-0 run to take a 49-45 lead into the 4th quarter. The final quarter was much of the same as the different lingered around one possession the whole quarter before the Eagles would come away with a 60-57 win over the Big Red handing the Big Red their first league loss on the season.

The Big Red JV and Varsity were then right back in action on Saturday night when they hosted Mansfield Christian which started out as a night of celebrations as we welcomed back the 2005-06 District Championship Boys Basketball team on the 20th anniversary of the first district championship in school history. And on the same night Big Red senior Jarrett Burrer joined the prestigious 1,000 point club with an early 2nd quarter deep 3 pointer. Burrer becomes the 12th boys basketball player in school history to join the elite club and will look to climb up the all time scoring list during the remainder of the season. The game itself was more of the same as the Big Red found themselves in another battle with the Flames. This time around the Big Red would hold leads of 15-11 after 1, 32-26 at the half, and 47-39 after 3. The Big Red however had trouble putting away the Flames as they gave up the lead on a MC break away layup with 20 seconds left in the game. The Big Red could not get a shot off on their last possession and would lose the heartbreaker to the Flames 56-55. The losses drop the Big Red to 12-4 overall and 8-1 in the FC play and they will be right back in action with another big league game tonight on the road at Western Reserve.

Also on Friday evening the MS wrestlers competed in the Firelands Conference meet at New London and while only 3 Big Red wrestlers were healthy to wrestle they all 3 ended the season with 4th place finishes.

On Saturday, the MS boys basketball teams competed in their respective conference tournaments and both saw their seasons come to an end as the 7th grade lost to South Central while the 8th grade lost to Western Reserve. Congratulations to all of our MS wrestling and basketball athletes and coaches on their seasons!

The HS wrestling team was also in action at Akron Hoban's Invite and saw three placers on the day as Thomas Winegardner and Ben Trimmer both notched 5th place finishes while Isaiah Miller took 7th place. They will have a week off this week before heading to Margaretta's Invite next Saturday.

Also on Saturday, the Big Red cheer squad competed in a Regional competition at Dublin Jerome HS and had an exciting day as they qualified for the state competition.
